Immigration protection for thousands of Haitians and Syrians who fled violence in their countries is set to expire. Immigrant advocates held a rally in Boston calling on lawmakers to extend the TPS status that the Supreme Court allowed to be ended. After the Supreme Court allowed the president to end temporary protected status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian immigrants, immigration advocates have been pointing people affected to resources, but the community is largely in a holding pattern. Kevin Martone, president and CEO of Bay Cove Human Services, said his organization laid off nine employees who lost TPS. They are urging lawmakers to pass a bipartisan bill that would extend Temporary Protected Status for Haitians for another three years.
