SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WNYT)- The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office said a hidden electrical failure caused K-9 Leo’s death, clearing his handler of wrongdoing.
“His loyalty to the people of Schenectady County and his devotion to Deputy Coppola were complete and unwavering.
But master automotive technicians found a voltage drop in the vehicle’s electrical system caused by mismatched battery capacities in a parallel dual-battery setup.
The sheriff’s office also said reserve vehicle R-K9 had been in service since 2016 and had extensive maintenance records, including air conditioning repairs.
The agency said that history reflected frequent and proactive K-9 vehicle maintenance, not neglect or that the vehicle was unfit for service.
