Surrey’s two new unitaries are set to form a foundation strategic authority from 1 April 2027. At a meeting of the East Surrey shadow authority yesterday, councillors discussed plans from Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. The indicative timetable for the FSA includes a consultation over this summer, consent from East and West Surrey in Autumn as well as a minitrial decision and making the statutory instrument before 1 April 2027. Earlier this year 11 Surrey councils expressed a joint interest in further devolution using the Surrey footprint. Prime minister Andy Burnham is due to give a speech about his plans for devolution tomorrow.
