The path, which runs alongside Egford Brook in Vallis Vale, had been closed while Heidelberg Materials’ Whatley quarry carried out repairs to address riverbank erosion caused by high foot traffic and winter river flows. The repairs included installing flow features to stabilise the riverbank, create more diverse fish habitats, slow the river’s flow, and limit further erosion. Larger branches have been secured into the riverbed to slow water flow, combat erosion, and offer habitat for invertebrates and fish. Heidelberg Materials plans to add information boards along the path to educate visitors about the riverbank and its wildlife. Residents seeking further information can contact Whatley quarry on its freephone number, 0800 644 4234, or by emailing whatley.quarry@uk.heidelbergmaterials.com.
