Lead fire investigator Kyle Murray tells 41NBC firefighters were called to the 4000 block of Mercer University Drive around 8:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible grass fire. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the apartment building. As the fire spread and conditions inside deteriorated, commanders moved firefighters outside and switched to a defensive operation.
