Maurice normally sits in the window of the booth at the Whitchurch Toll Bridge, earning local celebrity status. A fundraising page was quickly organised by toll booth worker Angela Marlow to raise money to cover Maurice's vet bills. The depth of community support for the cat has been striking, with the page racking up a whopping £10,065 from 541 donations. The Chronicle has seen some reports on social media suggesting Maurice has been seen back at the toll bridge, much to everyone's delight. Launching the fundraising page after Maurice was injured, Angela claimed the cat was hit "purposely" by the car and called the incident "a disgusting act of cruelty".
