MONROVIA, Liberia, July 30, 2026 – The Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L) has renewed its call for justice, accountability, reparations, and national reconciliation as Liberia commemorated the 36th anniversary of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Massacre. She said the proposed War and Economic Crimes Court is intended to promote accountability and healing rather than revenge. “The War and Economic Crimes Court is not about revenge but about accountability, healing, and ensuring that victims and survivors finally receive the justice and dignity they deserve.” Mulbah said the recent launch of the Civil War Memorial Photo Gallery represents an important step toward preserving the memory of victims, educating future generations, confronting denial, and ensuring that the atrocities committed during Liberia’s civil war are never forgotten. The St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Massacre, which occurred on July 29, 1990, remains one of the deadliest atrocities of Liberia’s civil war.
