Venezuela and Chile announced this Thursday the reactivation of their consular relations, marking a first step toward the full normalization of bilateral ties frozen for two years. In a joint declaration, both Latin American governments announced “the start of a roadmap for the progressive normalization of their bilateral relations,” which negotiations began on March 11, when the current Chilean administration took office. The initial phase focuses on reactivating consular services to ensure the protection of their respective nationals residing in each country. I also want to value the disposition of the Venezuelan government and greet Acting President Delcy Rodríguez for her willingness to advance in this joint roadmap,” stated Chilean President Kast. In this sense, Venezuela and Chile reaffirm that this process will be based on constructive dialogue, guided by the principles of mutual respect, reciprocity, and strict adherence to the norms of international law.
