WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The National Urban League has released its 2026 State of Black America report and is asking whether the American dream is dead. In the report, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization argues the dream is not gone but is in serious danger. The report points to a widening racial wealth gap, noting the median Black household holds just 15 cents in wealth for every dollar held by the median white household. The report also warns that hundreds of thousands of Black workers lost their jobs in 2025, with Black women hit especially hard. National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial says the country is experiencing the most significant rollback of civil rights protections in decades.
