SkyCity Auckland, above, is being sued anonymously by its former biggest customer who gambled and lost multiple millions during a three-year period.
(Image: Fiona Goodall/Getty)The man, whose name is temporarily suppressed, alleges SkyCity failed to protect him from harmful gambling during a three-year period at its Auckland casino, The New Zealand Herald reports.
The company was forced to close its Auckland casino for five days in 2024 for breaching its harm-minimization obligations.
The plaintiff, who is of Chinese origin, feared publicity would bring particular shame within his community, where high-stakes casino gambling is viewed as destructive to family life, Spring said.
“It’s happened at a public casino in the middle of town in Auckland.”
