The company was forced to close its Auckland casino for five days in 2024 for breaching its harm-minimization obligations. The plaintiff, who is of Chinese origin, feared publicity would bring particular shame within his community, where high-stakes casino gambling is viewed as destructive to family life, Spring said. “It’s happened at a public casino in the middle of town in Auckland.”
