A motorcade will escort fallen firefighter Nathan Matthews from Denver to Grand Junction on Interstate 70 on Friday, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.
Matthews died July 24 of burn injuries he sustained while responding to a wildfire in western Colorado late last month.
The motorcade led by the U.S. Wildland Fire Service, U.S. Forest Service, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and State Patrol is meant to honor his service.
The State Patrol recommends showing up early.
Matthews is the fifth wildland firefighter to die from injuries sustained in the line of duty while battling wildfires in Colorado this year.
