Meg Avon (nee Ruth-Trump), 30, was blessed in holy matrimony with the River Avon in the South West of England in 2023 during a "joyful" ceremony to protect it and raise awareness of water pollution.
Meg, who has recently been appointed the nature representative on the board of the UK River Rights Network, said: "The fact that the council voted unanimously is very exciting.
"The river advocate at Bath and North East Somerset Council, Councillor Andy Wait, is brilliant - and anything concerning the river goes right past his desk.
Tabling the motion to protect the River Avon, councillor Andy (Keynsham East, Liberal Democrat) told B&NES at the meeting: "This is what I want for our Avon."
In May, the River Wye became the first British river to have every council from its source to its mouth commit to a charter to protect it and ensure it is considered in council discussions.
