By Dan Israel/Hudson County ViewThe North Bergen Board of Commissioners voted unanimously (5-0) to approve a resolution adopting the Community Energy Plan at yesterday’s special meeting. Overall, the Community Energy Plan “establishes a roadmap for improving energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy, electrifying transportation, and strengthening community resilience over the coming years.” According to the plan, energy consumption in North Bergen is primarily driven by residential, commercial, institutional, and transportation-related activities. The third tenant of the plan wants to maximize energy efficiency and conservation and reduce peak demand by:upgrading energy efficiency for municipal facilities;a residential energy efficiency outreach campaign;and a commercial energy efficiency outreach campaign. Lastly, North Bergen’s Community Energy Plan wants to expand the Clean Energy Innovation Economy by adopting energy storage policies.
