An Upper Area Court in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State has sentenced Kabiru Umar to five years in prison after he admitted to abandoning his pregnant secondary school girlfriend despite initially accepting responsibility for the pregnancy. According to the court, the convict had approached the girl’s father to seek her hand in marriage without disclosing that she was already pregnant. Although he initially accepted responsibility, he later stopped providing financial and medical support, prompting legal action. After pleading guilty, the court sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine. The court further directed the convict to continue taking full responsibility for the pregnancy and all related medical needs until delivery.
