Pro-Palestinian activist John Minto has failed in a complaint to New Zealand’s Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) over TVNZ’s coverage of an Auckland march against antisemitism held following the terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Chanukah Festival. The Authority did not uphold the complaint, brought by Minto on behalf of Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa (PSNA), finding that the 1News broadcast breached neither the balance nor accuracy standards. The four-minute television report, broadcast on 21 December 2025, focused on an Auckland rally attended by approximately 300 people, held a week after the Bondi attack. It also noted that the report clearly distinguished the surviving perpetrator of the Bondi attack as having been influenced by Islamic State ideology rather than Hamas. In that case, concerning 1News’ reporting of violence involving Israeli football supporters in Amsterdam, the Authority found aspects of the broadcaster’s reporting were inaccurate.
