Judge Stephanie Boyd sharply criticized a Texas mother accused of child abuse before rejecting her request for deferred adjudication and sentencing her to prison. The abuse allegations first came to light after one of the children told school staff about the abuse at home. Counsel told the court that Ramirez had completed courses on family violence, violence education, parenting, and anger management. When Ramirez denied hitting the children, Judge Boyd responded, “So, if none of this is true, why did you ever plead? However, after reviewing the evidence and the PSI report, Judge Boyd rejected that request.
