(Daimler Trucks/Courtesy)Daimler Trucks North America will end truck manufacturing operations in Portland by the end of the year, relocating production to facilities in North and South Carolina in a move that will affect approximately 375 employees. Although large-scale manufacturing will end, Daimler said it will continue building new trucks in Portland for testing and validation purposes, as reported by The Oregonian. Daimler Trucks North America has maintained its headquarters in Portland since the early 1980s, while truck manufacturing on Swan Island dates back to the 1940s. Beyond its Oregon operations, Daimler operates five truck assembly plants in North and South Carolina, along with three manufacturing facilities in Mexico. Company officials recently said Daimler produces roughly 800 trucks per day across its North American manufacturing network.
