Salman Rushdie’s Attacker Faces Life Sentence After Terrorism ConvictionNEW YORK, NY -The man who stabbed author Salman Rushdie, leaving him blind in one eye, has been convicted on federal terrorism charges. The jury also convicted Matar of providing material support to the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Matar, 28, was convicted last year in a New York state court of attempted murder for the 2022 attack on Rushdie and is serving a 25-year prison sentence. Because the case involved both state and federal offences, Matar was tried separately in New York state and federal courts. During the trial, Rushdie testified that he found himself in “an enormous and expansive lake of blood” after the attack.
