The Suffolk County Water Authority(SCWA) has revised the route that it plans to take in a proposed project to build a water main connecting to communities on the North Fork, officials said. The goal is to provide a solution to saltwater intrusion that threatens the thinner, shallower part of the aquifer that supplies public drinking water in the Town of Southold. “This new route allows us to execute the project swiftly while keeping community impacts to an absolute minimum.” “The town is in communication with our special counsel regarding impacts to pending litigation,” Riverhead officials said in a statement. It is understood that this route considers some, albeit not all of the prior significant environmental impacts on our taxpayers.”
