Members of the public had raised concerns of blue-green algae in St Mary's Loch, near Selkirk. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and the environmental health department at Scottish Borders Council have been informed of the issue. A spokesperson for SEPA said: “SEPA has been engaging with all relevant partners but we have so far been unable to substantiate concerns of possible sewage pollution in St Mary’s Loch, Selkirk. A spokesperson for SBC said: “As previously advised, a possible sewage leak into St Mary’s Loch was reported to the Environmental Health. “Environmental Health visited St Mary's Loch on July 22 to place additional signage, advising the public of the current presence of blue-green algae in the loch.”
