A giant mechanical shovel demolished a 1909 shelter that was built along the lakefront by the Burnham family.
The structure, referred to as a “teahouse,” had long been incorporated into a larger house that was built decades after Burnham’s death.
The teahouse or shelter that was built by Daniel Burnham near Lake Shore Boulevard and Burnham Place.
Steps from the estate lead down to the Lake Shore Boulevard and Lake Michigan.
That’s mostly what residents see as they walk on Lake Shore Boulevard or Burnham Place.
