A major AI data center campus in Ohio will generate all of its electricity through a dedicated 350 MW microgrid instead of relying on the traditional U.S. power grid. The microgrid combines on-site power generation with a large battery energy storage system, allowing the data center to operate independently while maintaining a continuous power supply for AI workloads. The delays have pushed many AI developers to invest in private generation, battery storage and microgrids capable of operating independently. The Ohio project will integrate gas engines, linear generators, battery energy storage systems and medium-voltage infrastructure into a single energy platform. The system will provide 350 MW of generation capacity alongside a 430 MWh battery energy storage system.
