“Sack farming gives me the opportunity to farm within my reach, even on a concrete floor.
Beyond land constraints and insecurity, farmers in Kwara have also turned to sack farming as a way of adapting to changing weather patterns and the effects of climate change.
Yunus, who had practiced conventional farming for years, said prolonged dry spells affected yam production in 2024, prompting him to adopt sack farming mainly for yam cultivation.
Nevertheless, Arosanyin cautioned that sack farming should not be seen as a replacement for large-scale agricultural production.
Although sack farming cannot replace conventional agriculture, farmers say it has become an important adaptation strategy amid insecurity, climate change and limited access to farmland.
