MITCHELL — The number of personnel working the Shingle Fire continues to rise as the fire holds steady at 6% containment, according to an update by fire managers. The 64,493-acre lightning-caused fire is burning 14 miles southeast of Mitchell and was started on July 23. A total of 543 personnel, 11 crews, and 44 engines are currently working the fire. Wednesday, the Shingle Fire had 481 personnel, 11 crews, and 22 engines working it. On the east flank, they will continue working to protect structures in conjunction with wildland partners near Dry Creek, Rattlesnake Creek, and Cottonwood Creek areas.
