Monroe County Board of Commissioners President Julie Thomas discusses the removal of Flock Cameras during a meeting Thursday, July 23.
News ReleaseBLOOMINGTON – The Monroe County Board of Commissioners voted Thursday, July 23 to terminate the county’s contract with Flock Safety, ending its use of automated license plate reader cameras and directing that the devices be removed.
The board said it had discussed the matter with Monroe County Sheriff Ruben Marté, who supported terminating the contract.
Commissioners also encouraged the City of Bloomington to complete the removal of its own Flock cameras, expressing concern that cameras remaining in place could continue collecting data even after local contracts end.
After receiving no public comment, the commissioners approved the termination letter and camera removal on a 2-0 vote.
