According to reports, Red Cross lifeguards on duty noticed the 68-year-old swimmer was struggling in the water and appeared to be losing strength.
Moments after reaching the beach, the man suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and lost consciousness, prompting lifeguards to begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without delay while other emergency services were alerted.
Their rapid intervention ensured treatment started within moments, giving the man the best possible chance while additional medical teams travelled to the scene.
Despite every effort made by lifeguards and medical teams, the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
