Jack played as a winger for the club in the late 1950s, which he described as a proud time in his life. The club shared the arrangements for Jack funeral via his family. Remembering their former player, a Talbot statement said: "Auchinleck Talbot are saddened to learn of the recent passing of our former player, Jack (John) Harkness. "Jack who was 87 years of age, played on the left wing for the club in the late 1950s. "Auchinleck Talbot FC extends its sincere condolences to Jack’s family at this sad time."
