Drivers in Castle Point have faced severe delays this week amid a major gas network upgrade by Cadent which has closed the Tarpots junction on A13, London Road in Benfleet. The petition states: "Canvey Island's road network is already under immense pressure. The Tory MP said she hoped the traffic "chaos" resulting from the Tarpots closure would revive a taskforce dedicated to delivering a new route off Canvey to relieve strain on the road network. Castle Point Council wrote to Labour Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander in January this year urging the Government to commit funds for a feasibility study into developing a third road off Canvey.
