Karl Sharples, 38, of no fixed abode, appeared before Preston Crown Court charged with wounding with intent, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, and threatening a person with a bladed article. He entered not guilty pleas to both of those charges. He also faced alternative charges of causing section 20 grievous bodily harm without intent and possessing a bladed article, which he admitted and will be sentenced for. The more serious charges have been ordered to lie on the file. Sharples is due to be sentenced at Burnley Crown Court on October 12.
