The full list of projects shows it incorporates 59 routes across 41 individual schemes in the county council’s patch. Across East Lancashire, 21 new projects will be funded, including work on Pendle Way in Burnley, Queen's Road in Accrington, and Knotts Lane in Colne. The additional work will be the usual mix of full resurfacing and so-called ‘surface dressing’ which makes up the scheduled highways maintenance job sheet each year. Lancaster City Council's area will get more than a quarter of the extra schemes, a total of 11, while West Lancashire and South Ribble will get none. Back in February, County Hall set a £20.9m budget for routine, scheduled road surface work in 2026/27, within a wider £72m highways budget, which included £28m for reactive road repairs, plus cash for bridge maintenance, traffic lights, lampposts and drainage.
