Usman Anwar, 36, of Godley Street, appeared at Burnley Crown Court on Tuesday (July 29) accused of starting a fire at a property in Lindsay Street on June 21.
Anwar denied arson with intent to endanger life, but pleaded guilty to arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered - denying he deliberately aimed to put lives at risk, but admitting he knew his actions created that danger.
Prosecutors were unable to say at the hearing whether they would accept that plea and a further hearing was scheduled for August 6, by which time a decision will be made over whether to accept it or to go to trial on the original charge.
A provisional trial date, if needed, was set for December 10, and would last for two days.
Anwar was remanded in custody until the next hearing.
