Next week’s 54-hole Irish PGA Championship boasts a purse of €60,000, and defending champion Simon Thornton of Northern Ireland will be looking to match the great Michael Moran of Dublin by claiming his fifth win. Local entries include home Pro Lee Harrington, Georgie Pyke (Shannon GC), Rhys Cosgrove (McGuirks Limerick), Mark Beckett (Adare GC), Mark Higgins (Limerick GC), Gary Howie (Castletroy GC), Sebastien McShane (Adare GC), Bart O’Brien (Newcastle West GC), David Ryan (Limerick GC), Jack Ryan (Castletroy GC), Mark Shanahan (Adare GC), Gavin Young (Ballyneety GC) and Ronan Shire (Newcastle West GC). The Championship will be preceded by a Pro-Am on Sunday.
