Photos: Wikimedia CommonsDemocratic senators are pushing the Treasury Department for answers after its secretary, Scott Bessent, revealed it had abandoned plans to place Harriet Tubman’s image on the new $20 bill, Spectrum News has learned. In an interview earlier this month with Spectrum News, Bessent said his department was “not at present” planning to put Tubman on the $20 bill, an effort that was over a decade in the making. Shaheen has been introducing legislation since 2015 to put Tubman on the $20 bill, while Van Hollen represents Tubman’s home state. Joining Shaheen and Van Hollen on the letter were Sens. ; Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii; and Ron Wyden, D-Ore.President Barack Obama’s treasury secretary, Jack Lew, announced the planned redesign of the $20 bill in 2016 to honor Tubman.
