by WAKA Action 8 NewsMONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Alabama Department of Transportation is awarding more than $3.1 million in grants to improve 11 airports, some in our area. ALDOT has awarded $5,336,018 through the Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program so far in 2026. Eligible projects may include land acquisition, runway upgrades, facility repairs, maintenance and operational improvements. “These grants will help local airports address important needs and maintain facilities that pilots, businesses and communities can depend on.” These dollar amounts include state and federal funds.
