Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has stood down after five years in charge and will be replaced by German coach Matthias Jaissle. However, Howe informed the hierarchy of his belief that the time was right to part ways earlier this month. Captain Bruno Guimaraes wants to join Arsenal and, should the Premier League champions present an acceptable offer north of the £75million mooted by agents, the expectation is the Brazilian will leave. After leading them to survival, Newcastle qualified for the Champions League the following season and were beaten in the final of the Carabao Cup. They also qualified for the Champions League for a second time.
