The 51-year-old admitted one offence of possessing a sharply pointed or bladed article (namely an eight-inch fillet knife) in a public place, as well as a quantity of cannabis. Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court that on the evening of July 12, police were informed of a male standing at a bus stop in Shotton whilst carrying a knife. Chris Clark, defending, told the court: "He thought he was acting for the best, rather than leaving the knife with the fishing tackle by the river." District Judge Gwyn Jones interjected: "He wasn't fishing at the bus stop!" Judge Jones handed down a 26-week custodial sentence for the knife offence, but suspended it for 12 months.
