SOURCE: What should people know about this wildfire season in Colorado and the state’s ongoing drought? We have several researchers with the Public Lands Policy Group and the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute working on improved decision support tools during wildfire incidents. Research indicates we could see two to six times more damaging wildfires across the West by mid-century – that’s more fire and smoke in Colorado communities. We also need to think seriously about how we maintain public support for public lands in an era when there’s simply going to be more fire. When we do futures work with students, we help them think instead about the world they actually want to build and how to build it.
