July 30, 2026 Restaurant/Bar NewsJoe & The Juice, the Danish coffee chain that opened here in 2018, is closing tomorrow, Friday, July 31. Joe & The Juice took what was the northern half of Gee Whiz Diner at 295 Greenwich between Chambers and Warren. The chain started in 2002 with a single store in Copenhagen, was bought out by a private equity firm in 2012 and started a global expansion. In 2016, Gee Whiz, faced with an increase in rent and wages, cut off part of itself in order to survive. The building was built in 1987, so Gee Whiz was its primary tenant on the southern corner nearly its entire life.
