During the week of July 13, through July 19, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 10 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. So far in 2026, there have been 432 DUI arrests compared with 510 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.29 percent. The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 558 major crashes so far this year, compared with 581 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 3.96 percent. As of July 19, there were 17 fatal crashes, resulting in 19 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 30.77 percent for fatal crashes and 35.71 percent for fatalities.
