Political action committee Save Austin Now is urging the Austin City Council to publicly identify the nonprofits that failed to meet performance expectations in a recent city audit. The group’s request follows an internal audit of 25 family and social service contracts totaling about $30 million. Despite the findings, city officials have declined to release the names of the nonprofits included in the audit. In a statement, Save Austin Now co-chair Matt Mackowiak said withholding the information undermines public trust and argued taxpayers have a right to know which organizations failed to meet their contractual obligations. The city has not publicly announced plans to release the names of the nonprofits identified in the audit.
