Before the season started June 1, AccuWeather forecast between 11 and 16 named storms. The school’s forecast now sits at nine named storms, down from 13 in the initial projections released in April and 11 when updated in June. Also, the school’s July forecast has four storms reaching hurricane strength, with winds at or above 74 mph. The Atlantic season has so far seen two tropical storms, Arthur and Bertha, both of which affected parts of the nation’s Gulf Coast.
