Chümoukedima, July 30 (MExN): In a step towards environmental protection, the Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John, NCS, has issued an order prohibiting the use of Single-Use Plastic (SUP) items and single-use plastic bottles in the district with effect from August 1, 2026. The order has been issued in pursuance of the Home Department, General Administration Branch Notification No. GAB-I/MISC-I/2025/391 dated May 18, 2026, to address the serious environmental and ecological challenges posed by the rampant use of SUP. To facilitate the clearance of existing stock, a three-week relaxation period from the date of issue of the order has been provided. Thereafter, strict enforcement of the ban will commence across the district, stated a DIPR report.
