ST. PAUL, Minn. — State and federal authorities are responding to a coordinated cyberattack targeting operational technology across more than 30 community water systems in Minnesota. Protecting Public Health and Utility OperationsWhile technical teams conduct forensic assessments to determine the full scope of the breach, public health safeguards remain a primary focus. The Minnesota Department of Health is working directly with impacted local facilities to verify that public drinking water supplies remain safe and protected throughout the remediation process. MNIT technical response teams are actively sharing threat intelligence and indicators of compromise (IOCs) across the state to help utilities identify, isolate, and eliminate malicious activity within their operational networks. “Cyberattacks against critical infrastructure require a coordinated, whole-of-government response,” said John Israel, MNIT Assistant Commissioner and Minnesota Chief Information Security Officer.
