Thames Valley Police have issued a warning to residents in West Oxfordshire and Cherwell after a recent incident in which a high-value item was sold and the seller later discovered the payment was made with fake cash. Wesley Smith, police community support officer for Cherwell and West Oxfordshire, said: "We have recently received a report of a member of the public selling a high-value item, only to discover afterwards that they had been paid with counterfeit bank notes. "Do not rely on screenshots or payment confirmations shown on the buyer’s phone, as these can be altered or faked." If cash is being accepted, he suggested meeting at a bank so staff can verify the notes and deposit the money safely.
