Only, despite the almost $2bn takings of No Way Home five years ago, Spider-Man: Brand New Day almost didn’t happen. Indeed, Tom Holland really did consider calling time on his Peter Parker era after the last film. Having joined the MCU as Marvel’s youngest ever Spider-Man ten years ago, the boyish Brit began to question, three films in, just how long a 30-something can get away with playing a teen supe. A 2023 writers’ strike in Hollywood - not to mention the implosion of Marvel’s post-Endgame plans for the Avengers - didn’t help matters. Four years on from the events of the last film, in which Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr Strange wiped the world’s memory of Spider-Man, we find Peter Parker continuing to protect New York on the down low.
