An air ambulance landed close to Esplanade and several ambulances were seen in the area. The man was brought ashore but despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The emergency services were called to Walton beach on July 9 after a man got into difficulty in the sea. An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance landed near to Prince's Esplanade, but the victim was confirmed dead at the scene. Another man, aged 69, died after getting into difficulty in the sea off Clacton on June 26 at about 11am.
