In a bizarre ‘punishment assignment’ given by a female teacher in a private school in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district, a student of class eight was asked to write a vulgar word (abusive language used against mothers) 200 times, sparking public outrage. The teacher was meanwhile terminated from her service by the school management after an internal probe. One of the students was asked by the teacher to write the abusive language in his notebook 200 times and get it signed by his parents, as punishment. According to the school registrar Utkars Kiran, the matter was taken seriously by the authorities and the teacher was suspended pending an internal probe into it. Later, the teacher was sacked by the school management after finding the lapse, he said.
