Drivers faced major delays across Kendal after a section of Appleby Road, near Gavel Court, was shut for two days because part of the road had sunk. Long queues quickly formed on Monday at nearby Sandylands Road because of the inability to turn right at its Appleby Road end. David Greenbank Tyres & Towing Ltd, which is right by the road closure on Appleby Road, said they were not told anything by Westmorland and Furness Council. Westmorland and Furness Council originally said that the roadworks were expected to take three days but Appleby Road was open again on Wednesday.
