Community groups, businesses, schools, scout troops, faith organizations and other volunteers can now sign up for Lake County’s Adopt A Highway Program at any time of the year. Volunteer groups adopt a section of county highway or bike path and commit to cleaning the roadside twice each year. For more than 30 years, Adopt A Highway volunteers have helped keep county roadsides clean while saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual labor costs. Lake County was also the first collar county in Illinois to establish an Adopt A Highway Program. For information about the Adopt A Highway Program, contact Keely Wells, Adopt A Highway coordinator, at kwells3@lakecountyil.gov or 847-377-7472.
