Presteigne Fire and Rescue Station said it received a call from a local farmer on Monday, July 27, who had raised concerns with them about the temperatures of hay bales at their farm. Firefighters attended at the farm and said they recorded temperatures in excess of 70°C among the bales – saying the farmer had potentially avoided the need for a larger emergency response. “It proved to be a very worthwhile call, with some bales recording temperatures in excess of 70°C. The station has reiterated that stack testing is a free service provided by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service for the agricultural community in Powys.
